Kathy Rausch

Kathy’s goal is to mentor students in a way that encourages them to grow in personal confidence and skill as they integrate music into their own everyday lives.  In Educated Ears classes, a supportive class community enhances carefully sequenced instructional materials that are chosen to successfully develop listening acuity, musical literacy, performance, composition and improvisation.  Private students set their own pace and learning goals as Kathy coaches them through the hard spots and uses what they've accomplished to further their understanding of music as a whole.  Kathy especially enjoys working with students who prefer setting their own direction rather than following a standard curriculum.

Kathy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1993.  Her master’s degree in Kodály Music Education, earned in 1999 from Holy Names University in Oakland, California, was based on the highly successful pedagogy inspired by Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodály.

Kathy’s 20+ years of experience includes studio and classroom teaching.  She has worked in public, private and Christian schools on the U.S. west coast from Arizona to Alaska and in Germany and Greenland as well as home schooling her own 4 children.  She lives on a 5-acre sustainable farm that produces much of her family's food.  At home she is most commonly found feeding cows, milking goats, homeschooling, cooking nutrient-dense meals and singing canons and hymns with her kids as they work together on household chores.
